Background and Objectives
As the rapid industrial development under a globalised market, East Asia
is now changing drastically in both ecologically and sociologically. Global
ization has brought people material prosperity by economic growth, high tech
nology of information and medical services, education and so on. But these a
ctivities have caused deterioration of environments and loss of indigenous c
ultures which have promised us sustainable livelihoods for millennia. We hav
e to find out new ways of life which satisfy both sustainability and human w
elfare.
Under such circumstance, the role of anthropology and ethnology is becom
ing more and more important, as those disciplines have been focusing on: how
people have adapted to the different natural environments, and how people h
ave modified their ways of life under the historical and social changes. The
East Asian Anthropology and Ethnology Forum has established in Kunming, Chi
na in October, 2009 as a platform of academic communication, research promot
ion and human exchanges among East Asian countries and regions in the field
of anthropology and ethnology. We have chosen the theme “Ecological Sustain
ability and Wisdom in East Asia" in the 2nd assembly of the Forum.
The two sessions are proposed;
1. Endangered environment by human activities,
2. Wisdom of futurability.
